Private Car now owned by Mr. Paul DeVerter II - renamed "San Jacinto"

This model reflects the SAN JACINTO as it appears today (2004). Built for the Seaboard Air Line as the FT. LAUDERDALE, as one of three identical cars in 1956, for use on the Silver Meteor from New York City to Miami. Built with 5 Double Bedrooms, 2 Compartments, and 2 Drawing Rooms, all of which remain. Sold to Amtrak by SCL in 1971, where it continued in service until retired and sold to private owner in 1980. Currently being restored to original condition, now including HEP. At home on any current Amtrak or VIA train carrying heritage equipment, as well as private trains.

HISTORY:

This car is one of the last Stainless low level sleepers built by Pullman Standard at the Pullman Works outside of Chicago. There were 9 cars in the order by SAL, and these included 3 cars with 5 Double Bedrooms, 2 Compartments, and 2 Drawing Rooms; 3 cars with 11 Double Bedrooms; and 3 cars with 5 Double Bedrooms and a glass topped Lounge. At least one of each type still remain, and all are privately owned. The SAN JACINTO is owned by Paul DeVerter of Port City Car Company, and is kept in Houston, Texas. Dimensions and interior are taken from photographs and drawings of the original. Some liberties have been taken to make the car user friendly, and some innovation was necessary to insure adequate operation in the MSTS environment.
