HISTORY of the BCER 1304:

Built in 1911 by Westminster Shops

Built as an elegant private car for the visiting Duke of Connaught, it was converted to passenger service in 1912. The photo to the right shows 1304 during the first weekend of operation at the museum in Brooks in July 1997!

1304 ran on the Fraser Valley line between Vancouver and Chilliwack. In 1944 the car burned to its floorboards. It was re-built in 1946 in the New Westminster Shops. Thus giving it the title of the last wooden interurban built in North America.

This car has 400 horsepower and is capable of speeds of 45 mph. It also could Multiple-unit or MU with up to four cars.

Further information may be found in the book: FRASER RAILS THAT GLOW by David Reuss (2003 author).
