HISTORY of the BCER 503:
BCER 503 is an Electric Freight Motor of the British Columbia Electric Railway Company. It was built in 1899 by the shops of the BCER Co, rebuilt a few times, and in 1922 repainted in the then new BCER colors of red and cream. At the same time it was converted to right hand drive as was all of BCER rolling stock.
It was originally #101 of the Westminster and Vancouver Tramway Company, and affectionately called "The Flying Dutchman".
Length 34.8', weight 50 000lbs, Motors GE 67 x 4.
The 503 eventually, at the end of its career as a freight motor, became Wrecking Car S.61.
This car has 400 horsepower and is capable of speeds of 45 mph.
